Skin Fitness with Professional Peels

Peels are Skin Fitness: Why Winter is the Best Season to Transform Your Skin

Just like the body needs consistent training to stay strong and resilient, your skin also thrives with a structured fitness routine, and professional peels are one of the most effective “workouts” you can give it. Think of peels as precision training for the complexion to: increase cellular turnover, strengthen the skin barrier, refine texture, and restore radiance. And while peels can be performed year-round (based on your demographic), winter is truly the prime season for skin renewal.

Why Winter is the Best Time to Peel

1. During the colder months, the skin naturally becomes vulnerable. Cold, dry air dehydrates the skin, slows cellular turnover, and amplifies dullness, flakiness, and congestion. These skin conditions make professional peels not only beneficial but also essential for guests during their “skin fitness” journey, while making winter an ideal time to incorporate professional peels for deeper, more consistent rejuvenation.

2. UV exposure is significantly reduced in winter, which means:

  • Lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Less oxidative stress and inflammation
  • Safer peeling for all skin tones
  • Reduced skin-induced sensitivity
  • Better overall outcomes with faster recovery

With sunlight at its lowest intensity, winter allows for a consistent, uninterrupted peel treatment series, enabling guests to build on their progress without sun-related setbacks.

Why a Pevonia Peel Series Works Better Than a Single Treatment

A single Pevonia peel is transformative, but a series of Pevonia peels creates true, lasting change, just like a workout program done consistently over time. A Pevonia peel series benefits the skin by:

  • Retraining sluggish cell turnover
  • Smoothing fine lines and texture
  • Fading dark spots more effectively
  • Strengthening the moisture barrier
  • Cumulatively improving firmness and brightness

Pevonia peels act like metabolic boosters for the skin; each session amplifies the results of the previous peel. Over time, the complexion becomes more even, more radiant, and much more resilient.

Cycling Three Pevonia Peels: A Strategic, Customized Approach

No two skin types or conditions are identical, and no two peels perform precisely the same. Performing a detailed skin analysis will enable you to customize your guest's skin peeling journey, allowing you to target your peel cycling approach to address skin-specific concerns.

Using a combination of three Pevonia professional peels allows you to tailor the experience based on:

  • Level of sensitivity
  • Level of hydration
  • Skin tone
  • Pigmentation concerns
  • Texture changes
  • Breakouts or congestion
  • Winter dryness

By layering or alternating different acids (such as lactic, lactic and glycolic, Micro-Retinol® with lactic, and glycolic), we can refine the skin with precision, stimulating renewal while protecting the barrier. This approach offers guests a safe and personalized winter peel journey that addresses multiple concerns simultaneously.

Pevonia’s Professional Peel Treatment Options

  1. YouthRenew™ Hydra-Glow Peel (pH 3.0, 30% Lactic Acid)

  2. Lacto-Flora Peel (pH 3.0, 30% Lactic Acid, 1% Pyruvic Acid, 2% AHA Blend: Glycolic, Citric, & Malic)

  3. Micro-Retinol® Essential Peel Treatment (pH 3.0, 2.5% Retinol, 20% Glycolic Acid, 18% Lactic Acid)

Surprising Facts on Pevonia’s Peel Key Ingredients!

Lactic Acid (YouthRenew™ Hydra-Glow Peel, Lacto-Flora Peel, Micro-Retinol® Peel)

  • Lactic acid is a gentle alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) that strengthens the skin barrier by stimulating the production of ceramides, which are the essential lipids that reinforce the skin’s protective shield, improving resilience and reducing Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL)

  • Lactic acid can stimulate collagen production by increasing cellular turnover, signaling fibroblasts

  • Lactic acid naturally adjusts the skin’s pH to its optimal acidic range of 4.5 – 5.5, creating a skin-friendly and balanced environment that supports a healthy microbiome

  • Best for hydration, sensitivity, barrier repair, hyperpigmentation, and visible dullness

Glycolic Acid (Lacto-Flora Peel, Micro-Retinol® Peel)

  • Glycolic acid is the smallest molecule in the AHA family, and therefore, it penetrates the skin expeditiously

  • Glycolic acid accelerates cellular renewal and helps remove damaged keratinocytes, thus supporting the treatment of texture irregularities, lines and wrinkles, facial hyperpigmentation, and sun damage

  • Best for textural resurfacing, aging, and hyperpigmentation

Hibiscus Flower Acid – Pyruvic Acid (Lacto-Flora Peel)

  • Hibiscus flower acid is an extract derived from the petals of the Hibiscus sabdariffa plant

  • Hibiscus flower acid is naturally rich in pyruvic, citric, malic, and hibiscus acids, giving it both exfoliating and antioxidant actions, by combining the benefits of alpha-keto acid (AKA) and AHAs that brighten the skin

  • Hibiscus flower acid is also rich in anthocyanins, which are vivid red-purple pigments that neutralize free radicals from UV light and pollution

  • Supports smoothing the skin’s texture

  • Best for sensitive and reactive hyperpigmented skin

Citric Acid (Lacto-Flora Peel)

  • Citric acid is a naturally occurring AHA found in citrus fruits and works as a gentle exfoliant and pH adjuster to optimize product stability and skin barrier balance

  • Citric acid is known for its chelating properties – it binds with toxins and metals in the skin from environmental pollutants that cause dullness or oxidative stress

  • Best for dull skin, uneven skin tone, and works well in blended multi-acid formulas

Malic Acid (Lacto-Flora Peel)

  • Malic acid is a naturally occurring AHA found in apples, pears, and cherries

  • Malic acid has a larger molecular size compared to other AHAs, and therefore, it penetrates more slowly yet delivers results with reduced irritation

  • Malic acid is naturally part of the Krebs Cycle in cells, and when applied topically, it supports cell metabolism and cellular renewal

  • Best for sensitive, dull, and dehydrated skin. Works well in blended multi-acid formulas

Micro-Retinol® (Micro-Retinol® Peel)

  • Deeper epidermal penetration via corneocyte diffusion

  • Dermal absorption via follicular delivery

  • Pigment regulation

  • Better enzymatic conversion efficiency

  • Uniform activation across the skin’s surface

Pevonia peels go beyond surface exfoliation; they awaken the skin’s innate healing ‘intelligence’ by encouraging cell turnover and restoring the skin’s natural rhythm of movement.

Preparing the Skin: The Pevonia Essential Pre-Peel Program

Just like stretching before a workout prevents injury and enhances performance, prepping the skin before starting a peel series is absolutely essential. Proper preparation begins the exfoliation process, maximizing results of professional peel treatments while ensuring exfoliation and minimizing irritation through hydration.

1. Balance the Skin with the Correct Cleanser and Moisturizer
Consistent cleansing and moisturizing ensure the follicles are unobstructed, the skin is clean, hydrated, and the barrier function is intact.

Choose the ideal Pevonia cleanser based on skin type and condition. Some options are:

  • Sensitive Skin Cleanser: a milky cleanser, pH-balanced, formulated with safflower oil to gently remove make-up, dirt, oil, and debris while maintaining skin strength and integrity

  • Phyto-Gel Cleanser: a foaming cleanser formulated with natural cleansing surfactants like sodium lauroyl oat amino acids and cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine to cleanse oilier skin conditions, but gentle enough to be a family-friendly cleanser

  • Micro-Retinol® Foaming Cleanser: a fresh foaming cleanser formulated with 1% Micro-Retinol® to begin sloughing away built-up cellular debris

Choose the ideal Pevonia moisturizer based on skin type and condition. Some options are:

  • Soothing Sensitive Skin Cream: a triphase moisturizer formulated with propolis and panthenol that calms, soothes, strengthens, and deeply hydrates while improving barrier function

  • Balancing Combination Skin Cream: a lightweight triphase moisturizer formulated with arnica and lemongrass that helps control oil and follicular bacterial while balancing the skin’s overall surface

  • Micro-Retinol® Essential Moisturizer: a deeply repairing triphase moisturizer formulated with 1% Micro-Retinol® and hyaluronic acid to correct aging skin while smoothing skin texture and moisturizing

2. Incorporate Active Serums Strategically
Active serums prepare the skin for deeper, more even resurfacing. Always advise guests to discontinue use of any exfoliating products 48 hours before their professional peel treatment.

a. Resurfacing Glycocides® Cream: for normal to dry skin, this triphase cream formulated with 8% glycolic acid can be used in place of a serum under any Pevonia moisturizer to increase cell turnover while refining the skin’s surface and evening skin tone. Due to its triphase formula, only 8% is needed for efficacy and should be recommended based on tolerance. It can be recommended for home care use 2-3 times per week in the evening. For normal to oily skin, Resurfacing Glycocides® Cream can be recommended for home care use 3-5 times per week in the evening. However, for this skin type, it may be used as a moisturizer instead of a “serum”, as its dry skin counterpart.

b. Micro-Retinol® Essential Serum: a micro-emulsified serum formulated with 2% Micro-Retinol®. Perfect for skin showing signs of aging, uneven texture, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and loss of elasticity. Vitamins C and E synergistically provide the most powerful antioxidant protection while stabilizing retinol, making it more bioavailable. It can be recommended for home care use 4-7 times per week in the evening.

Non-negotiable Post-Peel Series Essentials

Once the skin has been freshly resurfaced, it becomes more absorbent, more responsive, and more susceptible to damage. This makes post-peel home care essential for maintaining results and protecting the newly revealed skin. *Note: all cellular renewing serums and moisturizers can be reintroduced to home care regimens 24-48 hours post-peel treatments based on skin tolerance. Here are the non-negotiable home care recommendations:

  1. Serums: Deliver concentrated actives that brighten, hydrate, repair, and support collagen renewal—maximizing the benefits of your peel series.

    • Power Repair® Intensifier – Collagen: a water-soluble serum 10% in strength formulated with marine collagen polypeptides that help stimulate collagen synthesis

    • Power Repair® Intensifier – Elastin & Sorghum: a water–soluble serum 10% in strength formulated with marine collagen polypeptides that help support and strengthen elastin fibers and sorghum, a natural juice from cereal that reacts with skin proteins to create a net-like effect, making the skin appear firmer

    • Power Repair® Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Serum: a water-soluble serum 10% in strength formulated with ultra-low molecular weight micro-fragmented hyaluronic acid to instantly expand and bind moisture, preventing TEWL and improving all cellular functions

    • “C” Complexe with Oxyzomes: encapsulated water–soluble vitamin C that helps stimulate collagen production while illuminating the skin

  2. Moisturizers: rebuild the skin’s lipid barrier, soothe sensitivity, and seal in vital hydration to keep the skin supple, strong, and comfortable.

    • RS2 Care Cream: a triphase cream not just for rosacea skin conditions; formulated with squalane, it helps repair the skin’s barrier while protecting from dehydration and external environmental aggressors

    • Lumafirm® Repair Cream: a triphase cream perfect for all skin types but especially great for normal to oily skin due to its lightweight formula; specially formulated to target hyperpigmentation from the skin's surface with oligopeptide-68 and from deep within the skin with diacetyl boldine, this multi-phase cream is perfect for evening out the skin’s luminosity

    • Power Repair® Marine Collagen Cream: a triphase cream formulated with marine collagen, hyaluronic acid, and vitamin E that preserves moisture, creates surface moisture bonds, and protects against free radicals for the perfect protection

    • Power Repair® Firming Marine Elastin Cream: a triphase cream formulated with marine elastin, hyaluronic acid, squalane, and aloe to moisturize, improve turgor, and protect skin against environmental pollutants

  3. Sunscreen: shields freshly renewed skin from UV damage, even during winter. Snow glare, cloudy skies, and indirect exposure can still trigger pigmentation without daily sunscreen protection.

Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 40: the perfect skin protection against UVA, UVB, and blue light emitted from electronic devices. This well-rounded formula can be used over your favorite Pevonia moisturizer or as a replacement for moisturizer.

Formulated with Withania somnifera, also known as Ashwagandha, this product neutralizes and repairs skin damage caused by electronic blue light. Physical sun protection from zinc oxide and titanium dioxide makes this sunscreen the perfect complement for all skin types and conditions, as it does not cause irritation or heat within the skin.
